Our Farming Story
In the 1850s, before the 20th century even began, the Fanjul family milled their first sugarcane. Little did they know at the time that the same passion that drove them to craft that first batch of sugar would eventually grow into all that Florida Crystals has become today. Our family-owned farms in Florida are living proof that we remain committed to sustainability, dedicated to doing things right and proud to provide top quality raw cane sugars from our family to yours.

Regenerative Organic Practices
Regenerative Organic Certification® represents the highest standard of organic agriculture in the world. Grounded in three pillars, it requires farmers to increase soil health, treat animals ethically and provide fair conditions for farmers and employees. We’re proud to be the first and only grower of Regenerative Organic Certified sugarcane in the United States.
Crop rotation plays an essential role in conserving our soil, and it allows us to provide an abundance of food staples to our local communities. Rotating our sugarcane with rice also provides particular environmental benefits.
CROP ROTATION
We implemented a unique means of pest defense by enlisting the help of a few winged assistants: our beloved barn owls. As a result, not only are we able to farm without the use of synthetic pesticides, but today our farming area has one of the highest concentrations of barn owls in North America.
OWLS
With a passion for conservation, our farmers began the honeybee project to care for local bees on our farms. These honeybees are part of our broader regenerative agriculture approach to promoting biodiversity on our organic farms.

OUR FARMS
Across acres of Florida’s vast, sun-drenched landscape, we plant, tend to and harvest the only organic raw cane sugar grown in the U.S. It’s a labor of love, and one we’ve undertaken happily for decades. Each year, we improve our efficiency, nourish our soil and preserve the beauty of the environment around us. Because this is our land, and it’s a part of us.
SOIL HEALTH
Our organic farms are laser-leveled to keep our soil and water where they should be. Our canals are cleaned, reclaiming soil from their beds to be re-deposited in our farms. To build up nutrients in our soil, we rotate our crops to eliminate weeds and protect the land from oxidation.
DRONES & GPS GUIDED TRACTORS
All across our farms, satellites, drones and GPS-guided tractors are used by our expert farmers. These tools help us monitor the health of our sugarcane, spotting where our crops might need more water or have too much water. They also enable us to be more efficient when applying nutrients. And being precise means using fewer resources.
OUR MILLS
Our mills, like our story, dates back to the 1960s. We continue to innovate at our facilities, making them more energy efficient, reducing their environmental footprint and perfecting their ability to produce the finest sugar in the world. Today, our Okeelanta Mill is one of the largest specialty sugar facilities in the world.
