Chunky Strawberry Applesauce

Chunky Strawberry Applesauce

This sweet, tart twist on traditional applesauce is equally delicious served hot or cold. Try it over oatmeal, pork chops or plain with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

6 (1/2 cup) servings

  • 3 (about 1 1/2 pounds) apples, such as Golden Delicious or McIntosh, peeled and cored
  • 1/3 cup Florida Crystals® Demerara Cane Sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries, no sugar added, thawed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Roughly chop 2 1/2 apples. Chop remaining apple into 1/4-inch pieces; set aside.

Combine apples, except for reserved apple, sugar and water in large saucepot.

Cover pot and heat over medium heat 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add strawberries and vanilla extract. Using a potato ricer, mash the mixture.

Stir in reserved chopped apple. Cover and continue to cook over medium-low heat an additional 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reserved apple will still be slightly crunchy in the sauce. Serve warm or cold.
