Instructions

Prepare the French Toast

Step 1

Using a serrated knife, cut off the crust on the four sides of the bread and cut the piece in half longways to make two long sticks per slice of bread. The crusts may be saved later for breadcrumbs or discarded. Set the bread sticks aside while preparing the egg mixture.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, add the Florida Crystals® Regenerative Organic Raw Cane Sugar and cinnamon. Whisk ingredients together to ensure the mixture is lump-free. Add the eggs and whisk until mixture is smooth. Add the half and half, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk ingredients until mixture is smooth. Set bowl aside to prepare the sauté pan.

Step 3

In a large skillet or griddle, add one tablespoon of the plant-based butter and heat until the butter is foamy. Cook the French Toast Sticks by dipping a stick in the egg mixture and placing in the sauté pan. Over medium heat, brown the French Toast Sticks for approximately 2 minutes on one side (or until golden brown) and flip the sticks over and cook the second side for 2 more minutes. When cooked, place sticks on a cooling rack that is over a parchment-lined sheet pan. Cook the rest of the French toast sticks in batches until all of the bread has been used up. The French toast may be kept warm in the oven that is set to 200°F if desired.

Prepare the Syrup

Step 4

In a small saucepan, combine the Florida Crystals® Turbinado Sugar and water. Over medium heat, bring mixture to a boil. Simmer on low heat until the mixture has been reduced and has the consistency of maple syrup. Add the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Stir and combine ingredients. Set the syrup aside until ready to serve.

Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Topping

Step 5

Combine Florida Crystals® Regenerative Organic Powdered Sugar and cinnamon in a small mixing bowl. Whisk ingredients to combine. Set the mixture aside. When ready to serve, using a small sifter, sprinkle a small amount of the cinnamon sugar topping over the French toast sticks.

Additional Tips

Recipe serves about four to six people.

Any type of hearty bread such as a wheat or Texas toast may be used instead of a brioche.

The size of the pan will determine the number of sticks that can be placed in the pan. If the pan is overcrowded, the sticks may not brown evenly.

A strawberry sauce can also be prepared for dipping by
- Quartering one-pound of fresh washed strawberries and adding 1/3 cup of Florida Crystals® Regenerative Organic Raw Cane Sugar to a saucepan.
- Add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened and ready to serve

Any leftover Turbinado syrup may be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to three days.
